Apple just released a developer preview for the next iteration of Mac OS X, 10.7 Lion, which gives some hints as to what’s coming next for the Mac’s flagship apps like iCal.We’ve never been huge fans of bundled Mac apps like iCal and iChat, but they are often still the best (and leanest) desktop options because they are so tightly integrated into Mac OS X.
iCal for 10.7 Lion will include new features to help manage multiple calendars more efficiently, as well as a sharp new interface.
The “Calendars” button in the to left corner should enable users to switch between IMAP calendars and local calendars, or view them all at once (like in iOS).
Apple is evidently still focused on keeping it simple and intuitive.
Lion also updates iChat to help users manage multiple accounts like AIM, Google Talk, and more. The new iChat app will consolidate the accounts into one buddy list so you can see all your online buddies with one glance.
