IBM is a huge sponsor of The Masters tournament. Thanks to IBM’s support of the tournament and IBM’s status as humongous global technology company, the last four IBM CEOs have been offered membership in August National, the all-male club that hosts the tournament.

But now IBM has gone and appointed a woman as CEO.

So Augusta National has a quandary on its hands.

Virginia Rometty, IBM’s CEO, has decided to attend the tournament this week, Spencer Ante of the Wall Street Journal reports, despite being barred from membership.

Rometty has been respectful enough not ridicule Augusta National in public. But plenty of other people have.

Earlier this week, both the Democratic President of the United States and the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney agreed that Augusta National should finally enter the 20th Century and admit women. This may be the first thing the two have ever agreed on.
