  • Pre-Orders for the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro in Australia are open from today, with the device going on sale 16 April.
  • Outright, the P30 costs $1,099 and the P30 Pro $1,599.
  • Telstra, Optus and Vodafone will be stocking the P30 Pro, while only Optus and Vodafone the P30.
  • The P30 Pro is Huawei’s new flagship device, featuring four Leica cameras on the back, which are said to be the best of any phone.

  • Huawei unveiled its new flagship devices, the P30 and P30 Pro in Paris early Wednesday morning, offering what the Chinese company claims are the best smartphone cameras in the world.

The P30 is the entry level device, starting at $1,099, and features a triple-lens camera system from Leica, including the same super sensitive low light lens of its P30 Pro big brother. Its other two lenses include a 3x optical zoom lens and an ultra-wide angle lens taken out of last year’s Mate20 Pro flagship device. It also includes:

    — 6.1-inch OLED display
    — 6GB RAM
    — 128GB of storage
    — 32MP selfie camera
    — 3650mAh battery

The flagship P30 Pro will set you back $1,599 and the specs take all the good bits, including a similar design of the P30 Pro and injects the steroids. Its quad-lens Leica camera system replaces the 3x lens from the regular P30 and replaces it with a 5x optical zoom lens, and also adds what’s called a “Time of Flight” lens which helps create more realistic bokeh and portrait mode photos. The rest of the device includes:

    — 6.47-inch OLED display
    — 8GB RAM
    — 256GB of storage
    — 32MP selfie camera
    — IP68 Waterproof
    — 4200mAh battery

With pre-orders open today already, the telcos have their pricing out already for both devices, with all of them also throwing in a free Sonos 1 smart speaker if you order before 16 April.

Also interesting is that the variant Optus is selling is a little different from Telstra and Optus, as it’s a dual-sim phone, rather than the single sim. This means if you’re travelling out rural and need extra coverage, you can chuck in a Telstra sim temporarily too, or when you’re overseas a local sim card for better rates there.

For the P30, plans start at $65 a month on Optus with 4GB of data, while on the P30 Pro, Optus also starts off the cheapest with 4GB of data for $85 a month.

However, in terms of value, Vodafone seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of data inclusion and pricing. For the P30, for $90.73 a month you’ll get 50GB of data, and with the P30 Pro for the same amount of data you’ll pay $111.62 a month. In comparison, Telsta’s
