Just a week after launching an amazing iPhone app, Hipmunk added a new feature to its popular travel site that allows you to find and book a hotel. The hotel finder is just as simple and intuitive as the flight finder. When you select a city, you’re shown a map display with each available hotel marked with coloured dots. (Green dots for cheap rates, red dots for pricey rates).

You can filter your search with a variety of map overlay features such as nearby dining, entertainment, and hotel amenities. Each hotel also has customer reviews from Yelp that you can view within Hipmunk.

Once you’ve selected a hotel, Hipmunk will direct you to the website you can book your room at. (Either a travel site like Orbitz or the hotel’s home page).

We tried out the hotel finder today. Check out our tour to see how it works. Click here to visit Hipmunk and get started.

Enter the city or airport you are travelling to, the dates you are checking in and out, and the number of rooms you need. Click search.

Hipmunk will begin loading available hotel rooms that meet your criteria. It took almost a full minute for our results to come in.

Each dot on the map represents an available hotel. You can also view the hotels in list form in the left window. Green dots are the cheapest hotels and red dots are the most expensive.

This is what the map overlay looks like. Hotels are filtered to meet the amenities you selected.

Click on each dot to reveal more about that hotel. You'll also see a list over customer reviews from Yelp. When You find the hotel you want, click the price in the pop up window to book it.

Hipmunk will direct you to the site where you can book your room. This will either be a travel site like Orbitz or the hotel's home page. From here, you can book your room as normal.
