Erica Shea and Stephen Valand are a New York City couple that, in the interest of saving money, decided to brew their own beer. Now, as co-owners of the Brooklyn Brew Shop, the greenmarket-inspired duo have put together a book that details every step in making their 52 beers — which includes flavours like Grapefruit Honey, Coffee & doughnut, S’More, World’s Greatest Dad, and Peach Cobbler  — in your own kitchen.

How do we know?

We were invited to attend the book release last night in the industrial wasteland/gentrified art haven that is the DUMBO neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

The event had beer pairing tables set up, with eight different beers being served with an excellent accompanying snack.

Our favourite combinations were the Jalapeño Saison with Mexicue cornbread and cheddar, and the Mustard Brown Ale with deviled hen egg, aji dulce peppers and soy mustard. And the Spring Lager was good, but it was no match for its pairing: a collection of hand-made dips that included the self-proclaimed (and Business Insider confirmed) World’s Best Onion Dip.

A live DJ spun eclectic records while Brooklyn beer drinkers rubbed elbows and stuffed beer-flavored popcorn in their mouths.

By the time we left, people were lining up to buy copies of the book for themselves.

You can do the same here.
