NBA Commissioner David Stern is believed to make $20-to-23 million a year in salary, but the real truth is that almost no one who works in the NBA knows with any certainty.Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski wrote a column yesterday about Stern’s influence over NBA owners and players, wondering if anyone will have the guts to stand up to him during the ongoing lockout fight.
But buried in that story was also the nugget that Stern’s actual salary is unknown to all but a tiny handful of insiders and that even most team owners – his bosses, in theory – don’t know what they pay him. The $23 million figure is merely a guess for the man who has run the league for more 25 years.
Roger Goodell, who runs the $9-billion-per-year empire called the NFL, makes about $10 million a year. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig makes more than $18 million a season.
