As the future King of England, Prince Charles is responsible for many things … including paying for his daughter-in-law’s official state wardrobe. In an effort to give the public “an insight into the real ‘cost of Kate,'” Prince Charles opened up his annual financial accounts allowing the public to gain a sneak peak into the costly lives of the Royal Family.
The Prince foots the bill for all clothing worn on official business for himself, his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, and his three “children” (Prince William, Prince Harry, and Kate Middleton).
In a review of his expenses, Forbes announced that the during the first few months of 2012, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe tallied up to a costly $56,000.
But her iconic outfits (who could forget her stunning Alexander McQueen wedding gown) have also led to a $1.5 billion boost to the British economy.
Simply known as “Kate-flation,” many of the dresses she wears at official appearances sell out in minutes and numerous knockoffs can be found just days later.
And it’s not just dresses that are being copied. The Duchess has been spotted on numerous occasions wearing shoes designed by L.K. Bennett. Since first wearing it 18 months ago, the price of her favourite “Sledge” heel has already increased by $31.
