Once upon a time, there was a lovely teenager who was launched into stardom after she appeared in the comedy “Mean Girls.”
That teenager was Lindsay Lohan.
Fast forward to 2010 and things have changed a lot since “The Parent Trap” and “Freaky Friday.”
Lohan is a disheveled mess and rumoured to be in serious financial trouble.
Her gossiping friends say she’s blown through all her money. Says Hollyscoop:
“The money that she has isn’t really there anymore. There’s no money saved up. Its not hard to go through 5 million dollars, especially if your Lindsay Lohan.“
In our latest look at how celebrities go from rich to broke we chronicle…
Samantha Ronson, DJ and sister of musician Mark Ronson, dated Lohan in a high-profile relationship during 2008. Reports are always surfacing that the two have either broken up or still together. No one truly knows for sure.
Both liked to drink and party into the wee hours of the night. Additionally, Ronson and Lohan could frequently be found overseas at various clubs where Ronson was DJing. Travel expenses and nightclub expenses no doubt added to Linday's financial woes.
At one point, Lindsay thought it'd be a great idea to plunk down more than $180,000 on a Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG convertible. After crashing it and running amock in general with the car, Lohan put it up for auction on eBay where it sold for around $111,000 despite being a post-crash vehicle.
If you're a celebrity, chances are you're visiting fancy restaurants and popular clubs in an effort to promote yourself. While you may get comped a drink or two, if you're busy hitting up not one but three clubs a night, chances are your funds will begin to dwindle.
Lohan is a purse fanatic. When she's not busy having them stolen, she's out purchasing them from expensive retailers in Los Angeles and New York. rumour has it that when Lindsay's purse was stolen, she had over $1 million of items inside of it. Keep in mind she's made around $7 million throughout her brief career.
If anything helped kill Lindsay's career, it's the media and herself. The media is obsessive in its coverage of Lohan's vices and exploits, like when she was photographed playing with knives (see picture) with a friend. Linday has also been photographed wearing no underwear, doing cocaine, drinking after getting out of rehab, smoking cigarettes despite pimping out a nicotine gum endorsement, and fighting with her girlfriends and boyfriends.
Many actors think that just because they can act, they can sing too. In some cases, that turns out to be true (Keanu Reeves, Ryan Gosling, Zoey Deschanel), but other times, it ends up being a complete shitshow. Lohan recorded an album back in 2004 called 'Speak.' It was panned by critics and considered a commercial failure. While it did ship over 1 million copies (thus being certified Platinum by the RIAA), no one bought it and reviewers didn't hold back
Steve Thomas from Allmusic.com had this to say about 'Speak':
'When paired with the loud, relentlessly ProTooled dance-pop and hooky but unmelodic songs on Speak', wrote Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic, 'the whole thing is a slick, ugly nadir of 2000s pop culture -- the kind of thing that makes Blue Staters think that, gee, maybe the Red Staters were right when they said the U.S. is going to hell.'
Talk about trouble. Lindsay Lohan has not one, but TWO DUIs under her belt, stemming from 2007. Lindsay would keep crashing her car and eventually got busted for drinking and driving. After going to rehab in January of '07, Lohan exited and within a month, was busted during a field sobriety test.
She has been to rehab a total of three times. Add the costs of private treatment up with DUI fines, lawsuits, legal fees, and costs and the entire ordeal becomes rather expensive.

Ask anyone what the last decent movie Lohan appeared in was and they'll promptly respond 'Mean Girls.'
After a string of flops that actually made it to theatres, Lohan had to take the low road and start doing direct-to-TV and direct-to-DVD movies, like this one: 'labour Pains,' a low budget flick that debuted on ABC Family. Nevermind that she could barely get insurance for the film, Lohan's acting leaves much to be desired.
