The Washington Times is reporting that House Democrats plan to offer an amendment that would withhold some federal grants from states that have ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, as Florida does. Stand Your Ground statutes are self-defence laws that have come under scrutiny since the shooting death of Trayvon Martin at the hands of Florida neighbourhood watchman, George Zimmerman.
The amendment is a piece of political theatre and has almost no chance of passing the Republican-dominated House.
