Trump's former top aide Hope Hicks is reportedly looking for a new job in New York

Hope Hicks is reportedly looking for a new job in New York City, casting doubt on earlier rumours that she would return to the White House.

The 29-year-old has been speaking to prospective employers in the city after spending time with her family in nearby Greenwich, Connecticut, Page Six reported.

Some “major companies” have expressed interest in hiring her, the gossip site said.

Hicks resigned as White House communications director in February, one day after testifying before the House Intelligence Committee to support its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Her last day was March 29, 2018.

She previously admitted to telling “white lies” for Trump, but not about matters related to Russia.

Rumours that Hicks would return to the White House had been swirling over the past few weeks, perhaps even as chief of staff. Trump is reportedly looking for a replacement amid reports that John Kelly was looking to leave his position.

Even Trump has expressed support for the idea of Hicks’ returning to the White House, albeit in an unspecified capacity.

The president told reporters in late June:

“I love Hope. She’s great. I hope that – I’ve been hearing little things like that. I think everybody misses it.

“When they leave for a little while, you [in the press] exhaust a lot of people … They come in full of life, full of vigour, and they’re exhausted, and then they get their breath.

“Frankly, Hope is great and so are many of the other people and they went out. But many people would like to come back.”

However, Hicks reportedly told her friends she wouldn’t go back even if Trump asked.

Prior to working at the White House, Hicks worked for public relations firm Hiltzik Strategies in New York, where she worked on Ivanka Trump’s fashion line.

In 2014, Trump’s eldest daughter then hired Hicks into the Trump Organisation, where she met Donald Trump and quickly “earned his trust.” Hicks then served on Trump’s presidential campaign before finally securing a role in the White House.
