The BBC reports that the town council in Braunau am Inn has decided to revoke any honours given to Adolf Hitler.Hitler was actually born in Ranshofen in 1889, and was made an honorary citizen of the Austrian village in 1933.
However, Ranshofen later became a part of Braunau am Inn and is now regarded as the Nazi leader’s birthplace.
Confusingly, the council said in a statement “no archival evidence could be found for the town of Braunau am Inn’s awarding Adolf Hitler honorary citizenship”, and technically any title would have ended with Hitler’s death, but we guess they wanted to be sure.
