When Mitt Romney made fun of a bunch of NASCAR fans for wearing cheap plastic ponchos last week — “I like those fancy raincoats you bought. Really sprung for the big bucks.” — there was some concern that the comment made Romney seem out-of-touch. Democrats quickly pounced on it.
But those Democrats should back off! In an interview with Bill O’Reilly last night, Romney assuaged our fears. He’s not out of touch. In fact, he’s even worn a garbage pag poncho!
“Look, I have worn a garbage bag for rain gear myself,” he said. “And we’re out there in the rain; the rain was getting us soaked; I didn’t have a rain coat myself. I would have liked one of those.”
And there you go! He’s just like us. Just your average, blue-collar, rain-soaked American. Nothing to see here.
Do you think any of his NASCAR team owner friends wear ponchos?
