Facebook’s ad revenue is by far the majority of its massive business.
Ad revenue in 2011 was $3.2 billion, up 69 per cent from $1.9 billion in 2010.
There was also a 42 per cent increase in ads delivered in 2011. The difference between the percentage increases is explained thus, in Facebook’s S-1 filing with the SEC:
“There was an 18% increase in price of ads 2011.”
Wow. This is a massive ad sales business.
Note that payments—game fees from Zynga, etc.—are dwarfed by its paying ad client base.
