Obama Blames The Dismal Jobs Number On "Uncertainty" About The Debt Ceiling

President Barack Obama just made a brief statement about the dismal June jobs report.Here is what he said:

“Today’s job report confirms what most Americans already know… we have a long way to go.”

“The economic challenges we face were not created overnight, and they will not be solved overnight.”

“There are a few things that we can and should do right now to redouble our efforts on behalf of the American people.”

Obama called for new infrastructure spending to put 1 million construction workers back to work and for Congress to pass patent reform and trade agreements, that he says will also create jobs.

Obama cited “uncertainty” created by the lack of a debt ceiling deal is contributing to the weak job numbers, in addition to natural disasters, and state and local government downsizing.¬†

Asked by reporters after his statement how his meeting with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi went, Obama answered only that “It was good.”

He added that a debt ceiling deal should be made “not for party but for country.”
