You can buy some “limited edition” bottles of Heinz ketchup via their Facebook Page, Gizmodo notes.This is a huge deal, because e-commerce is Facebook’s next billion-dollar business, after advertising and games. Facebook’s strategic business goal is to make sure as much activity as possible goes through their social graph (whether on or outside Facebook), so they can eventually levy a tax on the businesses that use Facebook. Commerce is the next logical step.
Once Facebook’s social graph makes it easier to sell and buy things through Facebook, retailers will gladly pay Facebook an affiliate fee or some other sort of tax like advertising for incremental sales.
