New Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer wants to hire a bunch more engineers and focus the company on “products” rather than on “media” and content-creation.But, other than email, Yahoo’s most successful properties are Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance.

How can she improve those properties, other than by creating more and better content?

Google’s Vic Gundotra just showed her how.

He just announced that Google has partnered with the NFL to bring Google+ Hangounts to NFL.com fantasy football drafts.

Fantasy sports remain a huge driver of Yahoo traffic, making Yahoo Sports the biggest sports site on the Internet. But the vertical needs to be far more social and far more mobile than it is today. There aren’t any features half as cool as videochat during drafts. Point your engineers there, Marissa!
