Google has taken a lot of heat for releasing a fantasy video of what it hopes to accomplish with its Google Glasses. For instance, John Gruber at Daring Fireball wrote, “Google’s transition into the new Microsoft is now complete: fancy-pants sci-fi concept video to promote stunningly awkward augmented reality glasses.”
After being spotted wearing a pair of the Google glasses in public, Sergey Brin explained why the company pre-announced the project.
He told Bryan Bishop at The Verge, Google wanted to get some feedback from the public on what they thought of the glasses. He said the feedback has already been “very useful.”
It makes sense. Not every company has to operate like Apple under a cloak of secrecy. Google can announce the project publicly and start developing it with input from normal people.
