Bloomberg reports that Goldman Sachs is in talks with former Geithner aide and Clinton Administration press secretary Jake Siewert to lead the bank’s communications department. The group is currently headed by Luca Van Praag. Van Praag has been criticised at times for his condescending tone and ribbed for his latinate vocabulary.

More broadly however, Goldman has been the subject of unrelentingly bad press since the financial crisis. Siewert’s hiring would represent an understanding inside the bank that change was required at a senior level on the communcations team.

After his time at the White House, Bloomberg notes that Siewert managed corporate development and and public strategy for Alcoa. He joined Treasury in 2009.

Siewert would also help the bank increase its ties with the Democratic Party, which have become increasingly frayed.
