According to NBC’s Michael O’Brien and Jamie Novogrod, Gingrich is telling supporters at his Florida rally that he will only debate by his own rules. It’s basically an attack on the liberal media.
“As your nominee, I will not accept debates in the fall in which the reporters are the moderators,” Gingrich said at a rally in Pensacola. “We don’t need to have a second Obama person at the debate.”
Gingrich is well-aware that there is a problem with this.
There is a bi-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates that has handled the planning, logistics, and security of presidential debates since 1998.
Instead of the “seven three-hour Lincoln-Douglas style” debates that Gingrich wishes to have, the Commission has long ago planned to have three debates between the presidential candidates, and one between the vice-presidential candidates.
