Newt Gingrich’s 1.3 million Twitter followers are mostly fake, says social media analytics startup PeekYou.If you’re just tuning in, here’s what’s going on. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich bragged about how he has way more Twitter followers than any other candidate. Gawker wrote a report saying that most of Gingrich’s followers are faked, based on an unnamed former staffer.

We wrote, hey, actually, it’s probably just because Gingrich was on Twitter’s Suggested User List, which routinely boosts users’ follower counts in the millions.

But PeekYou says it has an algorithm that separates the humans from the robots in Twitter, and says that only 8% of Gingrich’s Twitter followers are human. We’re still not 100% sure PeekYou’s algorithm works as advertised, but it’s one more piece of evidence.

So there you have it. Hopefully, we’re done, here.
