  • LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo took part in the NBA All-Star draft on Thursday, building their rosters on TNT.
  • The highlight of the broadcast came when Giannis and Charles Barkley both dunked on James for his known desire to have Anthony Davis join him on the Los Angeles Lakers.

The rosters for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game are officially set, with captains Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James building their teams during the first live broadcast of the All-Star draft on TNT on Thursday night.

Compared to the chaos that took over the league at the trade deadline, the All-Star draft was a light-hearted affair, with LeBron and Giannis leaning into some gentle ribbing and praise for the coming weekend’s festivities.

The highlight of the night came from Giannis, who roasted James after the Lakers star selected Anthony Davis to his team.

“Isn’t that tampering?” Giannis asked, earning laughs from both James and then “Inside the NBA” crew.

“Tampering rules do not apply on All-Star weekend,” James rebutted.

Davis was tied to the Lakers in a potential 11th-hour deal after the Pelicans star publicly requested a trade in the days leading up to the deadline, but the transaction never came to fruition – though Davis was fined for tampering for his statement.

James had already jumped out to defend Davis with an Instagram post arguing in favour of player’s doing what’s best for them.

All in all, a solid burn from Giannis.

Still, the best joke of the day came from Charles Barkley. After Giannis and LeBron pulled off an All-Star trade, swapping Ben Simmons for Russell Westbrook, Barkley pitched another trade – Giannis’ whole bench for Anthony Davis.

After failing to televise the All-Star draft last year, the NBA came through in 2019 and wound up with a solidly entertaining result. Now all that’s left is to play the game.
