The Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card is an extraordinary offer for those who fly Delta Airlines regularly (or plan to).
You’ll get “30,000 bonus miles to welcome you,” which is more than enough for a free domestic flight in many cases, if you are savvy and book ahead.
But the real savings, in my opinion, are actually some of the other Delta perks that this card offers. You get priority boarding, which as I have written about previously is not something I would ever pay for — but if it’s free, yes please! You see, boarding the plane before any other boarding zones gives you “first dibs” on the overhead compartments, which is great if your carry-on bag is large or somewhat fragile.
Additionally, Gold Delta SkyMiles cardholders get the first checked bag for free (a $50 value), and this fee waiver applies to up to 9 people on your reservation, so if your companion is travelling with you they can take advantage of this as well.
Gold Delta SkyMiles cardholders also get 20% savings on eligible in-flight purchases, including alcoholic drinks, movies and food.
There’s a special intro $0 annual fee for the first year currently. Apply online to take advantage here, or compare with other airline credit cards in the same category.
The verdict: This is a phenomenal credit card IF you fly, or plan to fly, Delta regularly. If you normally fly other airlines, however, or you fly a wide variety of airlines, focusing on earning Delta SkyMiles points doesn’t make as much sense. In that case, consider the Capital One VentureOne Rewards credit card (you can redeem miles on any airline) or the Blue Sky Card from American Express.
