Attorneys for George Zimmerman have decided not to immediately try and get their client out of jail. The defence team announced Tuesday they decided to delay filing a motion for bond and are not immediately seeking a second bond hearing, according to a news release from the case’s official website.
No reason was given for the delay.
Zimmerman, the neighbourhood watchman accused of killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is back in jail after Judge Kenneth Lester revoked his bond last week.
Zimmerman wound up back behind bars after prosecutors claimed he lied about how much money he had at his disposal. Prosecutors also claimed he failed to tell the court he owned a second passport.
The sudden turn of events is puzzling, considering Zimmerman’s defence team announced Monday they would file a motion that day seeking another bond hearing.
Zimmerman’s lawyers did not immediately return requests for comment.
