The neighbourhood watchman charged with killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin didn’t go far after a judge ordered him released from jail for the second time.George Zimmerman, who is facing second-degree murder charges for Martin’s death, is hiding out at a safe house in Seminole County and is guarded by a security team, his lawyers announced Sunday.
He left Seminole County Jail Friday afternoon after Judge Kenneth Lester ordered he be released on a $1 million bond.
Since Lester announced Zimmerman’s second bond, supporters have poured about $20,000 into Zimmerman’s legal defence fund.
Zimmerman’s lawyers used $85,000 from the defence fund to pay the 10 per cent of the $1 million bond that was required to ensure his release.
Next up in the case, Zimmerman’s wife Shellie Zimmerman is slated to appear in court on July 31 on charges she lied about the couple’s financial status.
Shellie Zimmerman was arrested last month on a charge of perjury in an official investigation.
