Retired Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal is a four-star general and former leader of US forces in Afghanistan. Over the course of a storied career, he was known for both his success and his outspokenness, the latter of which ultimately cost him his job. McChrystal has taught a course on leadership at Yale and recently wrote a memoir, “My Share of the Task.”
Here, McChrystal gives advice to his 20-year-old self, telling a story about how he once unnecessarily agonized over a decision, and the lessons he learned along the way about how to be a better leader.
