It’s no secret that Gawker has lost traffic since their controversial redesign. But Nick Denton put a number to it at the paidContent conference and it’s not pretty.
“We’re probably down by about 25 per cent,” Denton told Reuters blogger Felix Salmon during a Q&A session, reports Yahoo’s Cutline.
Not that Denton is demoralized by the downswing, nor is he apparently overly worried about revenue:
“I’m pretty confident we’re gonna be coming back..We set the targets flat on last year so the sales people wouldn’t be demoralized by the inevitable disruption…our overlying business is pretty strong.”
Nor does this traffic downswing mean you will be seeing the old Gawker return. As Denton noted in his memo to staff the other day: “The logic — that we need to showcase our strongest stories and visuals, not merely our most recent — remains as powerful as ever.”
