Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) is creating a lot of enemies on the screen and off of it on “Game of Thrones.”
During Sunday’s episode, a lot of fans suggested that he picked up the title of the show’s worst villain after Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) paraded the dubious honour for several seasons.
It was definitely earned. In previous seasons, we saw him torture, mutilate, and enslave Theon (Alfie Allen); hunt down and kill a girl simply because his lover Myranda (Charlotte Hope) was jealous of her; and then, of course, there were the repeated beatings and rapes of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), which sparked outcry among fans.
That was enough for viewers to vote Ramsay as the worst person in television in a poll by The Atlantic last year.
But Sunday’s episode cemented Ramsay’s evil reputation. Not only did he kill his father, but Ramsay also murdered his newborn half-brother, and the baby’s mother by having his hounds rip them apart.
If it’s any consolation to fans, Ramsay may be haunted by the cruel act.
“His stepmother gives birth to a baby boy, and that’s alarm bells right there, and his father’s warned him [about his uncertain place in the family after losing his bride Sansa Stark],” Rheon told Entertainment Weekly. “Instead of maybe trying to wait and see, it’s, ‘You have to go, mate, sorry.’ It’s not calculated, it’s reactionary. And it has an effect on him, which he didn’t expect.”
For the time being, we’ll have to see how that shakes out for him. Right now, fans are certain Ramsay is the worst — and some believe he’s stooped even lower than Joffrey.
