A new Gallup poll shows that public employee unions have significant public support in their battles with Republican governors and state legislatures across the country. Legislation passed by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Ohio Governor John Kasich that sharply curtails collective bargaining by public employees has generated a political backlash.

Roughly half of those surveyed said they sided with the public employee unions. Roughly 40% said they sided with the governors and state legislators seeking to curb the power of public employee unions.
