Well, this is one way to avoid going into debt.Future University of Virginia law school student Cara Henis has created a website called “Help Cara Go Legal” where she begs anyone from friends to strangers to give her tuition money, saying she does want to become “Uncle Sam’s serf.”
“So, please please please donate if you want something cool, donate because you love/ believe in me or even donate because you think I’ll fail, but are sadistic and would enjoy watching. I’m not Kant– the pretext behind your support isn’t important. All I’ll see, and be extremely thankful for, is your generosity and support,” she says on her website, which Above the Law linked to on Friday.
But don’t worry, she doesn’t expect you to just give her the money. She’ll give you presents when you reach certain donation benchmarks.
If you donate $10, Henis will send you “an awesome ecard.” If you fork over $50, she’ll make you a mixed CD “that is guaranteed to at least play music that hopefully and potentially you’ll like, but might at the very least amuse or horrify you,” according to her website.
If you’re feeling really generous and want to donate $350, Henis promises to volunteer at the organisation of your choice on your behalf.
But it doesn’t look like too many people are willing to finance her education. Henis has raised only $220 of her $5,000 goal.
