The lawyer slated to be the next ambassador to the Netherlands is going nowhere fast after police recently arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving and resisting arrest.Timothy Broas, 58, withdrew his name from confirmation as the ambassador on Thursday following an embarrassing arrest in the early hours of June 19.
Broas was charged with driving under the influence, speeding — police clocked him driving 47 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone — and resisting arrest after Maryland authorities pulled him over, All Gov reported.
He was only a mile away from his house when he was arrested.
Broas works as a Washington DC partner for Chicago-based Winston & Strawn, where he handles white-collar criminal defence.
But, the ambassadorship would have been the feather in his cap, at least politically speaking.
The White House tried to play down Broas’ legal troubles, saying he “withdrew his nomination for personal reasons,” according to All Gov.
