Just as Dominique Strauss-Kahn seems to be putting to bed his situation in the US, he’s got a new crisis.French writer Tristane Banon will file sexual assault (attempted rape) charges in France against DSK, according to her lawyer, via Reuters.
We’ve written before about the alleged incident — which according to Banon took place in 2002.
Note that Banon is the god-daughter of DSK’s second wife Brigitte Guillemette.
In 2007 she went on TV to describe the incident:
“It ended really badly. We ended up fighting. It finished really violently.”
“We fought on the floor. It wasn’t a case of a couple of slaps. I kicked him, he unhooked my bra, he tried to open my jeans.”
He acted like a “horny monkey.”
“I said the word ‘rape’ to scare him but it didn’t seem to scare him much, which suggests he was used to it.”
Back in May, she had hinted that in light of the maid case, she would file charges over the matter. Now that’s official.
For more background on the alleged incident, including Banon talking about the matter, see here.
UPDATE: See this Google translated interview with her lawyer in French newspaper L’Expres.
In it he claims that the decision to file charges now (they’ll be filed on Tuesday) has nothign to do with the timing of events in the US, and that the decision was made before July 1. He also notes that the in French courts, the statute of limitations for attempted rape is 10 years.
