Billionaire Australian businessman Frank Lowy, who founded Westfield in 1960, has just announced he is selling the company for $32.7 billion.

One of Australia’s wealthiest and most successful businessman, grew up in in wartime Hungary.

At the age of 13, his father left the family home one day and never came back. His disappearance haunted Lowy, now 87, his whole life.

Lowy’s childhood, the loss of his father and experience of WWII, set him on a path to make the most out of life.

As well as his Westfield achievements, Lowy is a former Director of the Reserve Bank of Australia. In 2010 he topped BRW’s rich list with a wealth of $5.04 billion, and was the founding former chairman of the Football Federation Australia.

In 2000, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for his service to the community, and this year he was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to business and philanthropy.
