They’re looking for men and women to step up to “Help construct a full size M1A2 Abrams Tank out of strawberry shortcake.”
That’s right. A few unrelated entities are coming together this week thanks to a new TV production called Big Food for Country Music Channel (CMT). The ambitious show is all about “inventing unique cooking contraptions to create massive food spectacles.”
Making a full-size cake model of an M1A2 Abrams tank would fit that bill. Produced by General Dynamics, the beastly Abrams M1A2 is a main battle tank of choice for the Army. GD says the tank has “unrivalled firepower, manoeuvrability, and shock effect.”
Construction of the tank-cake began this weekend at Fort Benning, and will take some days to finish, probably due to its sheer size and detail.
We discovered the project coincides with another tank-related spectacle elsewhere on base this week. The no-nonsense U.S. Army armour School is holding a competition to name the Army’s best tank crew — at least among those who aren’t deployed overseas at this time.
The first ever 3-day Sullivan Cup will feature full-action “live” and virtual reality simulations to challenge tank crews’ precision gunnery, dismounted operations, and ability to overcome a changing battlefield.
It turns out the Top Tank Crew will be crowned the same day the Big Food cake is unveiled.
Perhaps the winners will get take home a little more than sweet victory.
