They may be all the rage across college campuses, but experts are now saying foam parties endanger your health at an alarming rate, reports MSNBC. The most startling incident came in May when a soppy, foamy party at a Naples, Florida nightclub sent 25 club goers to the hospital complaining of intense burning sensations in their eyes.
The American medical community, perhaps a few minutes late to the metaphorical foam party bus, is still hoping to warn young foam enthusiasts about the perils of attending these frothy bashes.
Experts specifically warn about eye irritations due to excess foam and improperly mixed substances and slip-and-fall injuries from wet surfaces and limited visibility. They’re also saying party guests can vomit from excess foam intake and contract pink eye.
Dr. Howard Mell, a spokesman for the American College of Emergency Physicians, had never heard of foam parties until he began seeing a spate of patients who complained of fall injuries and optic pain following their attendance at various foam galas, MSNBC reported.
Now, however, he’s saying they’re hospital visits waiting to happen. “I question any party where you’re intentionally going to put together alcohol, slippery surfaces and blinding people to their visual surroundings,” he told MSNBC.
While we can’t help your balance or regurgitation issues, may we suggest buying a pair of goggles for your next foam soiree?
