A Florida man who discovered a World War II-era grenade while magnet fishing took the explosive to a local Taco Bell before calling police, authorities say.

The Taco Bell in Ocala, Florida, was forced to temporarily shut down after the man brought the grenade to the restaurant on Saturday, according to CBS Tampa affiliate WTSP-TV.

The man, whose name has not been publicly released, discovered the explosive while using a magnet to fish for precious metals in a river in the neighbouring town of Ocklawaha, about 65 miles northwest of Orlando.

Police said that the man picked up the grenade, put it in his trunk and broght it to the fast food restaurant. He then called authorities to tell them what he’d found.

A bomb squad evacuated the fast food restaurant and removed the grenade as a precaution.

Ocala Police later verified on Twitter that the explosive was a WWII hand grenade and that it was removed from the Taco Bell without incident.

The Ocala Star-Banner reported that the bomb squad later discovered that the grenade’s firing pin mechanism did not appear to function.

Officials secured the device and took it to another site for destruction.
