Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' Law Is Under Attack

A Florida task force charged with weighing the merits of the state’s Stand Your Ground law is meeting this morning for the first time.The meeting began at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning at a Longwood, Fla., church, Bay News 9 reported.

The controversial law has come under fire when George Zimmerman invoked its defence after shooting Trayvon Martin.

Martin’s parents are expected to attend the hearing.

The federal government has also jumped into the fray. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights plans to launch a special investigation about how race effects the laws’ enforcement.
