Take A Tour Of The Beautiful New Financial Times Web App For Tablets

Financial Times Tablet

Attention iOS users — the Financial Times has just rolled out a new web app that plays very nicely with your iPad, iPhone, and any other tablet or mobile device that supports HTML 5.

The free app offers great text and video content. It even says that you can configure it to work offline, but we were unable to make this feature come to life.

Despite that, we’re impressed with how nicely the app came together.

Here's the app homepage at http://app.ft.com

You can add the Financial Times to your home screen to launch it like a regular app

A brief loading screen before viewing content

Video in the app is intuitive to use and looks great

Here's what a page looks like when viewed in Safari

And a page when you launch the app from the home screen

Slide your finger side to side to advance to the next section

Rotating between landscape and portrait mode is no problem -- this is something that can crash lesser web apps

We tried to setup offline reading capabilities by allowing the app to access the iPad's database -- after waiting for it to download ALL the articles, pictures, and videos, it simply wouldn't work offline

Despite offline capabilities falling flat, we like everything else about this app. We look forward to using it and seeing where it goes in the future
