Ding Ding: Mark Wahlberg Set For "The Fighter," Round Two

Less than two days after the Oscars, Mark Wahlberg is talking about getting back in the ring.

He says a sequel to Best Picture nominee “The Fighter” is in the works.

“Now we’re gonna talk about doing No. 2. We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy and make it real,” Wahlberg said, referring to a series of fights Micky Ward had against boxer Arturo Gatti.

If these talks come to fruition, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo would presumably be right back in the roles that just scored them Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress Oscars respectively.

It’s amazing how some little gold statues can speed things along. It took Wahlberg almost a decade to get “The Fighter” made — and just 48 hours to get the ball rolling on part two.
