Retail Sales Surge As Shoppers Storm Back In February

Retail sales were solid for February boosted by winter-clearance merchandise. February is traditionally a small sales month for retail stores.Analysts were expecting an average rise of 3.6% across 25 big retailers.

Here is a roundup of sales data we’ve seen thus far:

  • Limited Brands posted a 15% gain in same-store sales
  • Macy’s sales were up 5.8% for February
  • Nordstrom posted a sales gain of 7.3%
  • Ross Stores reported a 3% gain
  • Rite Aid posted a 1% gain
  • Target posted a 1.8% gain
  • Kohl’s posted a 5% gain
  • Skateboard and surf apparel store Zumiez saw a jump of 13%
  • Cato reported a 5% gain
  • Hot Topic posted a loss of 1.4%
  • Dillard’s posted a 1% loss
