With Week 13 nearly in the books, it’s time for another all-important waiver cycle in the world of fantasy football.
We’re only three-quarters of the way through the NFL regular season, but for fantasy owners, this is as tense as it gets. Some leagues have their postseasons scheduled to begin as early as this week; others are in the home stretch before the playoffs start. Whether or not your roster is set to freeze after this week’s cycle, there are a number of important pickups to be made.
Below, read up on 10 players worth adding ahead of Week 14.
Peyton Barber, RB
Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 13 stats: 102 rushing yards, 41 receiving yards, 4 receptions
One thing to know: Barber made the most of his first start of the year, receiving the lion’s share of the carries while torching the Green Bay defence for over 100 yards on the ground. That’s something the injured Doug Martin hasn’t done even once since signing a five-year, $US35.75 million extension with the Buccaneers in 2016.
Dede Westbrook, WR
Team: Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 13 stats: 78 receiving yards, 6 receptions
One thing to know: Westbrook is only just beginning his professional career, but with 25 targets through his first three games, he has already established himself as one of Blake Bortles’ preferred targets. He gets a tough matchup against Seattle this week, but his outlook should improve significantly after that.
Theo Riddick, RB
Team: Detroit Lions
Week 13 stats: 21 rushing yards, 41 receiving yards, 5 receptions, 1 touchdown
One thing to know: Ameer Abdullah should be ready to go in time for next Sunday, but given the starter’s struggles before going down with a neck injury, Riddick remains a good candidate to do some damage. With the Buccaneers on tap, the Lions offence will likely spend a lot of time on the field.
Aaron Jones, RB
Team: Green Bay Packers
Week 13 stats: 20 rushing yards, 1 touchdown
One thing to know: This UTEP product only got one touch on Sunday, but it was a big one: a 20-yard touchdown run that gave the Packers a huge 26-20 win in overtime. Starting back Jamaal Williams is looking better with each passing game, but in light of his late-game heroics, Jones should receive more attention against Cleveland in Week 14. He’s at least worth stashing until we see how Mike McCarthy reincorporates him into the offence.
Marquise Goodwin, WR
Team: San Francisco 49ers
Week 13 stats: 99 receiving yards, 8 receptions
One thing to know: Goodwin has been trending well ever since Pierre Garcon went down with a neck injury in Week 8, and Sunday’s game may have included his most impressive performance yet: nearly 100 yards on a 100% catch rate. If new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo improves from his first start of the year, expect this Texan’s stats to do the same.
Josh Doctson, WR
Team: Washington Redskins
Week 13 stats: 26 receiving yards, 3 receptions, 1 touchdown
One thing to know: This 2016 first rounder isn’t having a great season, but neither are any of the Redskins skill players. Kirk Cousins has been forced to make the most of what he has, and that means Doctson can usually expect to be targeted in the end zone around once per game. For fantasy owners who need to make a change at the 11th hour, he’s a better pickup than most.
David Njoku, TE
Team: Cleveland Browns
Week 13 stats: 74 receiving yards, 4 receptions, 1 touchdown
One thing to know: Njoku turned in the best performance of his career on Sunday, grabbing his first touchdown since Week 5 while matching his career high of four catches, set during the previous game. This rookie isn’t a set-and-forget option by any stretch of the imagination, but with DeShone Kizer showing marginal improvement, he is a potential streamer.
Josh McCown, QB
Team: New York Jets
Week 13 stats: 331 passing yards, 19 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns
One thing to know: Despite a significant uptick in production heading into the weekend, McCown was owned in just 42% of Yahoo! leagues and remains an ideal pickup for any fantasy owner sweating their Week 14 quarterback matchup. He probably won’t be good for two rushing touchdowns again, but he still ranks a surprising 12th in the league in passing yards.
Mason Crosby, K
Team: Green Bay Packers
Week 13 stats: 2/2 field goals, 2/2 PATs
One thing to know: The Packers offence was surprisingly productive on Sunday, and Crosby rose to the occasion, knocking the ball between the goal posts on every one of his attempts. The team could perform even better against the Browns next week.
Buffalo Bills, DEF
Week 13 stats: 23 points against, 3 sacks, 1 interception
One thing to know: Buffalo is a risky play that could pay big dividends. Their defence may be forced to spend a lot of time on the field if Nathan Peterman starts in place of Tyrod Taylor, but there’s also a chance that their pass rush runs with the momentum from logging three sacks against the Patriots and has a field day on Jacoby Brissett. Either way, they need a win to stay competitive in the murky AFC playoff hunt.
