That was quick!Facebook’s New York engineering boss, Serkan Piantino, is already trashing Silicon Valley in a Wired article today.
“The reason people don’t want to be in Silicon Valley is because while it’s awesome for the tech community, [and] is so deep in terms of people thinking about technology, that’s all there is, right?” Piantino told Wired. “You don’t have the fashion industry, or the media industry, or even finance. Those things make it so you get this variety of experience in New York that’s kind of lacking in Silicon Valley.”
Facebook is hiring a bunch of infrastructure engineers in New York that are there to make sure Facebook stays up and running. It’s looking to hire up a bunch of software engineers from banks and other long-standing institutions in New York, Piantino told Wired.
Piantino worked in Facebook’s Silicon Valley-based hacker headquarters for three years. Facebook opened its engineering wing in New York in January when Piantino and his “landing team” started hiring.
