Instagram has hired Ryan Gomba as the company’s newest engineer. This hire takes Instagram’s famously small workforce from 8 employees to 9.

Instagram now has one employee for every 2.8 million users.

We think Instagram is one of a handful of startups that pose a true threat to Facebook.

In a blog post, Gomba says he got into Instagram through his love of photography:

“I owned a DSLR for a while, but quickly realised that the best photos are the ones most easily shared. Instagram is like a family photo album. Except it’s always open, changes in real-time, and brings together more than just family. Work on something you love, right? Well that’s why I’m here.”

Instagram is still currently seeking new employees — check out the company’s job page to see if you have what it takes to be employee number 10.
