Facebook introduced a new product called Facebook Stories today. Stories is a new site that allows Facebook to share the stories of individuals using Facebook in extraordinary ways.
Stories is a separate site from the Facebook you’re used to. To use stories head to FacebookStories.com and take a look at some of the events already there. To submit your own story, you must enable a Facebook App through your current account.
Each month Stories will introduce a new theme and tell different tales of how the social network has touched individual’s lives.
The stories site explains, “Stories is now accepting submissions from people who’ve used Facebook to accomplish something that wouldn’t have been possible before Facebook. We’re looking for extraordinary, touching or surprising stories on any kind of topic—from memory, to love, to childhood.”
The theme for August is ‘Remembering’.
For example, Facebook’s blog post introducing Stories highlighted the story of Mayank Sharma, a man from New Delhi who lost his memory after contracting meningitis. Sharma rediscovered his friend network with “People You May Know” on Facebook, helping him to recover some of the experiences he lost.”
Back in 2010 Mark Zuckerberg wrote a Facebook blog post debuting a similar “Facebook Stories”. Zuckerberg said, “We’re launching a new application called Facebook Stories where you can share your own story and read hundreds of others, categorized by themes and locations around the world.”
But today’s Stories is different from that one. Facebook told Business Insider that, “The earlier effort was a Page tab with a form. This is a new site and separate effort, from a different team.”
You can find out more about Facebook Stories on the Stories Timeline.
