Ever feel like you are spending too much time on Facebook? Facebook’s Jocelyn Goldfein, a top engineering manager, says that far from feeling guilty, you should let yourself feel good about it.This might sound like an obvious perspective from someone with a vested interest in getting people to use her company’s services.

But Goldfein is talking from firsthand experience. She was a hugely successful executive at enterprise company VMware before Facebook hired her away in 2010. And one reason she left was because she was a Facebook user who loved the site.

“A lot of people see Facebook as frivolous or they feel guilty about spending so much time on Facebook,” Goldfein said. “But what could be more important than spending time with family and friends? Don’t feel guilty about connecting with other people, and staying in touch with what’s going on with people’s lives.”

If you’re going to feel guilty about something, she added, feel guilty about time spent playing video games, or with your face pointed at a some screen, alone and not interacting with other people.

Interesting advice.
