Following the international fervor last year over the Texas judge caught on tape beating his daughter, it seems there is one more person opposing his return to the bench—his ex-wife. Judge William Adams was suspended from the bench and sanctioned after the video went viral.
But a state ethics commission for judges supports his reinstatement to the bench, CNN reported Thursday, noting the Texas Supreme Court would ultimately decide Adams’ fate.
The judge’s ex-wife, Hallie Adams, is asking the state’s Supreme Court to keep him off the bench.
“I am trying to protect the public from being judged by a person that I feel does not have the capacity to act fairly and effectively as a judge as evidence of how he has treated his own family over the years,” Hallie Adams said on Wednesday, according to CNN.
The video, shot in 2004 but just released last year, shows Adams’ horrifying beating of his then 16-year-old daughter, Hillary. She claims he beat her for downloading music and games from the Internet.
News emerged after the video went viral that Hillary had cerebral palsy and her father refused to acknowledge it, The Daily Mail reported.
Judge Adams has said the video “looks worse than it is,” and claims his daughter only posted it as payback for taking away her Mercedes, according to the AP.
Here is a link to the clip, which it is quite graphic.
