A man who’s been to prison twice for manufacturing meth took to an online forum to tell his secrets of the trade. The man posted to Reddit’s Ask Me Anything section with his prison numbers as proof of his background. He says he is now cleaning up his act, getting custody of his daughter and going to college.
Below are some highlights from the interview.
How does a meth cook make sure his or her stuff is high-quality?
“Eventually I started using pH strips. But originally I would shoot it and if I died don’t use it. Some people have a “quality control” but it’s few and far between. Yes I actually shot some shit that looked like garbage a friend made. It was an awful high and for the next few days I felt like my back was hit by a truck.”
On whether he blew anything up:
“No, I do have a couple friends with between 20-50 per cent burn scars.”‘
Thoughts on how much being a real-life meth cook is like Breaking Bad:
“I think it’s accurate. You become a shell of who you were and you do really f—– up shit. Other than that I don’t know, I wasn’t a superlab.”
What made him decide to quit drugs:
“It stopped being enjoyable in the late 90’s. It took till 2008 to get off it. I was sick of being a disappointment to my family.”
How he feels about legalizing drugs:
“I think legalizing it would be a big mistake. Pot, mushrooms, and opiates I’d be fine with. Speed is a different animal. As long as the opiates were pharmaceutical grade.”
And how much he made as a meth dealer:
“Probably $2,000 to $3,000 per week.”
