ESPN on-air personalities have all weighed in and they are evenly split on who they believe will win the Super Bowl, with 17 picking the New England Patriots and 17 siding with the New York Giants.In predicting the final score, the experts are also split on the score. If we consider all 34 predictions, the scores average 25.3 points for the Patriots and 26.0 points for the Giants. The predicted scores for the Patriots range from a low of 17 to a high of 34, while the Giants scores range from 16 to 34.
If we consider just the 17 experts that picked the Patriots, the average final score is predicted to be 27.9 to 24.3. The other 17 ESPNers predict the Giants to win with an average final score of 27.6 to 22.6.
The group does agree that the game will be close. Of the 34 predictions, 28 predict a final winning margin of less than a touchdown, and 17 think the game will be decided by a field goal or less. Only three experts predicted the eventual champion to win by at least 10 points.
