- Police in Ennis, Texas are searching for a local woman who disappeared more than a week ago.
- Emily Wade, 38, went to a male co-worker’s house to watch a movie the night of January 5, but never returned home. She hasn’t been seen since.
- Wade reportedly moved to Ennis about a month ago to be closer to her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her 7-year-old daughter. She had been working as a waitress at Chilli’s.
A 38-year-old single mother has been missing for more than a week from Ennis, Texas.
Emily Wade’s mother, Shirley, told WFAA that her daughter told her she was going to a male co-worker’s place to eat pizza and watch a movie the night of January 5. Shirley told NBC she started getting worried when her daughter wasn’t home by 10 p.m., and knew something was definitely wrong when she hadn’t returned the next morning to get ready for her shift at Chilli’s.
Since then, her phone has turned off, she hasn’t posted anything on social media, and her bank account hasn’t been touched, WFAA reports.
Wade’s mother says she’s never disappeared before and she would never willingly leave her 7-year-old daughter. The girl was in the care of her father that night, Ennis Police Lt. Mike Hopson told INSIDER.
Wade moved to Texas from Kentucky about a month ago, to be closer to her ex-boyfriend, Jared Jones, who is the father of her daughter. She relocated along with her mother Shirley.
“I’m scared I’ll never see her again alive, and I’ve never said that to anybody else, but I am scared to death,” Shirley told NBC News.
Jones has also spoken to several news outlets, saying he has been driving around Ennis with Wade’s brother, looking for any sign of her.
He says his daughter has noticed Wade’s disappearance and the situation is weighing especially hard on her.
“We just want her home, and every night, me and my daughter, we pray together that we are going to find her,” Jones said on the “Today” show. “It gets harder and harder every day to keep the hope.”
Jones expressed some suspicion about the male co-worker that Wade visited the night she disappeared.
“We just need to know something so we know where to begin,” Jones told CBS Dallas-Fort Worth. “And if he was her friend, he would definitely come help.”
According to WFAA, that man told police that he watched Jones drive away from his house at around 8:30 p.m. the night they hung out.Fox 4 reports that the man was one of the few friends Wade had made since moving to Ennis.
Hopson told INSIDER that the male coworker has been cooperating with the investigation. He has sat down for several interviews and has allowed police to search his home and car. There have been no indications of foul play so far, but they aren’t ruling it out either.
Police have questioned the male co-worker, Jones, and Wade’s mother about her disappearance. Hopson said no one has been cleared, but they have no suspects.
Shirley Wade was directly asked by an NBC reporter whether Wade’s ex could have harmed her, and she said no.
“He loved Emily, he loves Emily. They just didn’t mesh together. But they love their daughter equally,” she said. “And I don’t think Jared would ever hurt the mother of his child.”
Local police have searched for Wade using drones that have retraced her route to her co-worker’s house. They have also looked at creeks and high-water areas that were swollen the night before she disappeared, WFAA reports.
Wade is described as being 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. She has blonde, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a peach sweater, blue jeans, and sneakers with a peach stripe.
At the time of her disappearance, she was driving her mother’s car, a 2012 silver Nissan Altima with the Kentucky licence place number 411 PAZ. The car has a broken front bumper.
Anyone with information on Wade’s disappearance is being asked to call the Ennis Police at 972-875-4462.
