At least 73 people have been killed in Port Said, Egypt after violence broke out at today’s game between al-Masry and al-Ahly, Al Jazeera reports.
Details are still coming in. But it appears as though hundreds of fans from the winning al-Masry team stormed the field and began attacking al-Ahly players and fans after the game. More than 1000 were injured according to CNN, and the death toll has risen to 73.
Al Jazeera reports that many of the victims died of “suffocation or head injuries.”
Egyptian officials have suspended the entire league indefinitely, according to the BBC.
Former USA national team coach Bob Bradley, who now coaches the Egyptian national team, was not in the stadium, Grant Wahl reports.
