In a contrast to the staunchly capitalist image of modern Germany, the East German bank Sparkasse Chemnitz is offering customers a Karl Marx credit card.  Reuter’s Sophie Duvornoy reported on this recently. This moment of historical irony arose from an online poll posted on the bank’s website.

Given a choice of a 10 monuments, including several local castles, voters overwhelmingly chose a local monument to Karl Marx to adorn a credit card. It won a commanding 35 per cent of the vote.
